Dimensions of Attraction Survey: Study Information Page

You are being asked to volunteer in a research study, Dimensions of Attraction .

The purpose of the study is to understand how women and men experience different types of attractions. If you are:

    age 18 or over

then you are eligible to participate in this study.

If you agree to participate, your part will be to complete a secure, anonymous online survey that asks you questions about you and your romantic relationship history. It should take approximately 30-40 minutes of your time. At the end of the survey, you will be offered a chance to view some of your own results in comparison to scores from the average U.S. adult population. You will be given feedback on five different dimensions of individual well-being. This individual feedback is provided for your use only. The investigators will not have access to the individual feedback given and will only analyze the data at an aggregate (i.e., group) level.

There are no foreseeable risks other than possible mild feelings of discomfort that might arise when thinking about your experiences (although people often enjoy this process) to you for participating in this study.

You will not be paid for your participation.

The following procedures will be followed in an effort to keep your personal information confidential. The responses of all subjects will be stored numerically and only the investigators of the study will have access to that group data via password-protected computers. Only summarized group data will be studied. These procedures mean that responses are securely and completely anonymous which means that there is no way for your identity to be linked to your responses. To ensure that this research activity is being conducted properly, Stony Brook University's Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects and/or applicable officials of SBU, the University of Rochester's Institutional Review Board, OHRP (Office for Human Research Protections), Dr. Janne Davila, the principal investigator and Athena Yoneda, the study coordinator have the right to review study records, but confidentiality will be maintained as allowed by law.

There are no costs to you for participating in this study.

Your participation is completely voluntary. You do not have to participate if you don't want to.

If you have any questions about your rights as a research subject, you may contact Ms. Judy Matuk, Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects at Stony Brook University at 631-632-9036 and/or The Human Subjects Protection Specialist, Kathleen Buckwell, at the University of Rochester Research Subjects Review Board at 585-276-0005 or toll-free at 877-449-4441 (you may also call this number if you cannot reach the research staff or to talk to someone else).

If you continue below and complete the online survey, it means that you have read the information contained in this letter, and would like to be a volunteer in this research study.

Thank you,

Joanne Davila & Athena Yoneda
